Western Manitoba Regional Library launches new eResource – Newspaper Archive

Feb 12, 2021

The Western Manitoba Regional Library is pleased to share that they have a new eResource available for use from the comfort of your own home! Newspaper Archive provides access to a variety of newspapers from across Manitoba and Canada, including local papers from Brandon, Neepawa, and Glenboro. All of these can be accessed from your computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Archival issues allow for easy genealogical research. Some of the Manitoba newspapers have issues dating back as far as 1872. You can search using names, dates, and/or locations. Once you are viewing a newspaper, you can take “clips” of certain sections and save them to folders you create within your account for future reference.
Signing up for Newspaper Archive is simple – attached is a “link” that provides step-by-step instructions and photos. You do require a Library membership in order to gain free access. Anyone who is not a Library member but would like to become one is welcome to email the Library at info@wmrl.ca or call us at 204-727-6648 ext. 3 to get set up.
Provincial guidelines will allow us to reopen to the public on Tuesday, February 16th, so interested individuals can also visit us in person to sign up for a card or for information/assistance with Newspaper Archive. We now have two locations: our Downtown branch is located at 710 Rosser Avenue and we also have a branch within Shoppers Mall (in between TKettle and Rogers Wireless).
